What a Day for a Birthday
It's that time of the year again. My birthday is coming up at the end of this month. At my age, this is an event that I'd like to see quietly pass me by but my kids won't let me forget. So I figured why not ask you all for an extra-special gift to boost my morale? Here's the deal....I want you to invent the cupcake I will eat at my birthday party. Leave a comment below nominating at least 2 ingredients (maximum of 4) like bacon and maple syrup; or pear, cinnamon and chocolate, and I will pick one ingredient combination to whip up my special birthday cupcake. To sweeten the deal, if I pick your ingredient combination, I'm going to make you 12 cupcakes of the same variety!
Contest ends Sunday July 17 and is open to anyone anywhere but you have to be in Paris to pick up your cupcakes. You can enter as many times as you'd like. Winner will be chosen entirely at random by me and my cupcake cravings! The winner's cupcakes will be available for pick-up starting 28 August and offer valid for 1 year. For duplicate ingredient nominations, the first person who suggests the combination wins. The winning cupcake will be revealed the week of July 25.
Thanks for playing and looking forward to a tasty sweet treat for my birthday this year!

I'm unfortunately in Brussels but if I win it will be the perfect excuse to visit Paris and your shop! I've been craving for cupcakes with rose water and pistachio for some time!! and for pistachio almond and strawberry. The perfect start of the summer.. the smell of the Mediterranean!!
ReplyDeleteHappy Birthday
How about cream cheese, nectarines and raspberry coulis? Something fresh and light for the hot summer!
ReplyDeleteHappy birthday and thanks for the contest!
how about an iced tea cupcake - tea, lemon and mint in some combo with cupcake, frosting and maybe a filling?
ReplyDeletecaramel frappachino - cream cheese frosting, caramel filling and coffee cupcake?
ReplyDeleteHappy Birthday!!
Jen
What an awesome birthday idea! I propose.... cream cheese, lime and coconut!
ReplyDeleteHere are my three suggestions:
ReplyDeleteMocha Eclair: A vanilla or coffee/mocha-infused cake filled with a dollop of mocha cream (like what you would fill an eclair) and topped with a mocha ganache.
Peachy Keen: A peach cake -- or vanilla cake filled with a peach cream -- topped with a peach-infused or vanilla buttercream.
With a Cherry on Top: An almond cake topped with a dark chocolate ganache and a marzipan cherry and filled with cherry cream OR you could fill with dark chocolate and top with cherry buttercream.
Note: I will by towards the end of November to pick up my order. ;-)
Black Forest Cake - chocolate base, whipped light cherry frosting, chocolate shavings
ReplyDeletePina Colada - coconut base, pineapple-rum buttercream frosting
Tiramisu - coffee base, mascarpone cheese, dusting of cocoa powder
Happy Birthday! :)
Yum, yum, yum, yum! Some great ideas here - thanks! If you want to see what has been suggested on the French version of my blog, check here: http://littlemisscupcakeparisvf.blogspot.com/2011/07/what-day-for-birthday.html
ReplyDeleteFor once in a very long time, I can't wait for my birthday! I'm really looking forward to making one of these delicious suggestions!
A mojito cupcake...lemon sponge, rum frosting and a mint leaf on top?
ReplyDeleteOr maybe a cupcake version of a New York Lemonade would be more appropriate...lemon sponge, Grand Marnier frosting?
Mmm, cocktails. *chink*
You could count on a Scot for an alcoholic theme, right Cat?
Zingy Peach - Peach & ginger cupcake topped with lemon marscarpone frosting. Optional - lemon curd filling
ReplyDeleteChococo-Cardi - Chocolate and cardamom cupcake topped with coconut milk buttercream or white chocolate coconut milk ganache
Coco Bleu - Coconut cupcake topped with a blueberry/blackberry buttercream or marscarpone frosting
Happy Birthday!
Okay first try: Moist chocolate cupcake with a Absinthe infused frosting (not sure if butter-cream or cream cheese frostings are best with alcohol in them). Just enough that is tastes like an Andes Mint candy and adding a fresh piece of mint leave to the top for decoration.
ReplyDeletei think you should make a white choc/raspberry cheesecake cupcake: white choc cake with rasberries, and cream cheese frosting with raspberry swirl.
ReplyDeleteWhite chocolate and piment de l'espelette.
ReplyDeleteok here's my choice, burnt sugar and spice cupcake
ReplyDeletechai cupcake use a chai teabag infused in the warm milk before adding to vanilla cake mixture should give a subtle flavour, then flavour the icing with nutmeg, cinnamon, ginger then top off with a spun burnt sugar nest et voila something a little different.....
well i don't see the comment i tried to post earlier so i guess i'll try again!
ReplyDeletefirst idea:
white chocolate raspberry cheesecake: white chocolate cake with fresh raspberries, cream cheese frosting with raspberry swirled in.
second idea:
lemon-blackberry ricotta: lemon ricotta cake with a blackberry lemon glaze and a ricotta cream cheese frosting. topped with fresh blackberries? (you could also substitute peaches or blueberries for the blackberries if that's more your taste)
I just thought of another one:
ReplyDeletelight vanilla cake with crystallized ginger pieces, filled with orange-grapefruit marmalade, and topped with a light grapefruit honey ginger frosting of some kind.
Apologies - I have been having some issurs with blogger and the comment moderation function. Rest assured, I have received your comments - it's just that not all of them have successfully published. Trying to fix that!

Hello, yikes I almost forgot... I had such a craving for a cupcake when I saw the comp, but was stuck at my desk.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the opportunity to get creative!
How about:
- A Blackcurrant centre in a vanilla cupcake with vanilla frosting
or
- Rose with pieces of loukoum and confit rose petals (turkish delight) (had it as ice cream and plan to play around with it)
or
- Maple with walnut pieces and maple buttercream frosting
or
- Apricot cupcake with melon centre and basil frosting?
or
- Strawberry or peach and verbena
I'd like to try them out one day!
Hopefully apart from the one you choose for your birthday we might see some others too, there are so many that are yum, and so many on the VF blog.
Happy birthday in advance and have a great day!
And looking forward to Cupcake Camp 2...
